    Hello,
I’m interested in your job vacancy. I’m a student here in Budapest and I’ve studied English my whole life, thus am capable of interpreting any English related tasks. i believe i can meet your job requirements, however am not a native Hungarian.

    thank you,
    Nadeen G.

Not to be tough on the wording used here in your job post, but WHY exactly do you need a NATIVE HUNGARIAN? Does that mean all non-Hungarians need not apply…? Because they couldn’t be a good secretary or speak English, or some other weird reason like that? I think that such a requirement disadvantages someone who speaks English as a first language like, for example, me. I grew up in America. I also I have great English. I am just trying to understand if the job poster is using English properly and is truly suggesting that the company NEEDS a NATIVE HUNGARIAN. Surely this is a mistake and the writer of the post meant something else which doesn’t translate well… I assume the write of the post simply needs a person who speaks English, because both are two entirely different requirements. One requirement discriminates based on birth-location, which is supposed to be illegal in the EU. Right? The other requirement is fair, as anyone can learn a language to the level of a native speaker. Plenty non-Americans speak English perfectly. Plenty non-Hungarians speak Hungarian perfectly. You should clarify your intent.

I hope to god you mean native Hungarian speaker (or someone you can speak Hungarian at a native level) and you do not mean a genetically native Hungarian… Please clarify if I can ask kindly.

    Dear Rilwan Kujenya,

thank you for your comment. Actually, this job advertisement is correct and there is no mistake: we are looking for a native Hungarian. And we have a reason for this which is related with director of the company being a foreigner himself.

However, you are right about English language: everyone can learn a language and everyone can fulfill our requirements, but, as I mentioned it earlier, we have another reason why we are looking for Hungarian person for this position.
