Job Description

Reports To: UIP Chief Operating Officer and Regional Distribution Supervisors for Paramount Pictures & Universal Pictures (based in London)

Location: Budapest

The Position: To maximise net revenues from the cinema (theatrical) release of a wide variety of high profile and specialized motion pictures from UIP’s Partners through strong sales & marketing techniques and strategies. A “hands on” role. The General Manager has responsibility for 7 staff, with 3 direct reports.

Job Tasks
 Evaluate potential of each film in relation to local market and determine revenue and margin estimates.
 Formulate release plan to maximise revenues and negotiate with cinema operators (exhibitors) to secure best screen venues.
 Manage the development and implementation of cost efficient advertising, promotional and publicity campaigns that reach across traditional and new media outlets. Working with media, creative and online agencies ensure that each film is successfully launched in the most professional and effective manner, in line with approved budgeted spend levels.
 Negotiate with exhibitors to maximise number of weeks films are retained on screens.
 Produce annual overhead budget and control expenditure against same.
 Maintain satisfactory system of internal controls to ensure correct recording of all transactions and safeguarding of company assets.
 Ensure compliance with local regulatory and legal requirements, company policies and international anti-bribery legislation.
 Preserve an open and communicative relationship at all times with exhibitors and vendors, ensuring complete transparency in all of UIP’s business relationships.
 Activities to oversee include the following:
• Importation of digital print materials and submission to censorship authority.
• Translation, sub-titling and dubbing processes.
• Importation and delivery of encrypted digital print materials to cinemas and transmission of decryption codes to cinemas.
• Collection, consolidation and reporting to UIP, Paramount and Universal of box office revenue data from exhibitors.
• Commissioning of independent secret checks on audience attendance figures to obtain assurance on veracity of reported revenues.
• Monitoring of exhibitors’ promotional activities to ensure compliance with industry practice and previously agreed arrangements.
• Prompt invoicing and collection of UIP’s share of box office revenues to ensure timely remittance of royalty to UIP Head Office.
• Preparation of monthly income and cost statements on an accurate and timely basis for UIP London.

Skills/Experience
 8+ year’s commercial experience, including 5 at Director level or equivalent.
 University degree.
 Successful track record in sales & marketing, preferably within entertainment/media sector.
 Proactive and self-motivated professional with result-driven nature.
 Experience within an international company.
 Excellent team leader and motivator with ability to build and enhance staff morale.
 Able to work successfully in a highly charged and demanding environment and deal with confrontations in a direct and calm manner.
 Strong negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills.
 Ability to build collaborative relationships with exhibitors.
 Comfortable working in a corporate structure and an international environment.
 Understanding of compliance and governance goals expected by US shareholders.
 Excellent English language skills (written and spoken).
