Outsourcing and Technology Lawyer

Our prestigious partner seeks to recruit a junior to mid-level outsourcing and technology lawyer for its newly established Budapest legal centre of excellence. The candidate will play an integral role in the continued expansion of EMEA business, both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas.
The candidate will lead negotiations of customer contracts and related agreements for transactions across a range of jurisdictions and industries, focusing initially on the UK and Middle East businesses. They will be part of the growing EMEA legal team which currently consists of fourteen lawyers. This role will involve daily exposure to our clients and senior management.

Responsibilities:

The role will encompass a wide variety of legal and commercial issues and transactions, varying greatly in nature, complexity and value. It will involve work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation and post signature issues. The candidate will have frequent contact with internal business teams and corporate functions and quickly gain an understanding of the company’s business. Issues relating to intellectual property, data privacy, payment terms and revenue recognition, remedies and liability in the context of IT and BPO services will be particularly relevant.

What we require:

The ideal candidate will have trained in a well-regarded European private practice firm and have between the equivalent of one to four years’ PQE in English terms (in-house or in practice). Experience of contracting in the field of supply of services is essential both in terms of commercial law and a commercial attitude; experience working on IT services and outsourcing contracts is highly desirable, as is an interest in the technology industry. Experience of contracting in common law and civil law jurisdictions is strongly preferred.

Skills necessary to fulfill the job successfully include:

– Fluency in English and precision in legal drafting and business communications. Other European languages are an advantage but not essential.
– In depth knowledge of contract law and practice
– Ability to assess legal risks in the context of the deal and the wider business, and balance these with commercial needs.
– Confidence to act as the “conscience” of the company and escalate where required, guiding decision-makers on key issues
– Excellent communicator and able to communicate effectively with people at all levels of our organisation and with our clients; both oral and in writing.
– Able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities and to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
– Self-starter and able to work independently and remotely.
– People management skills.
– Flexible, strong and self-assured personality.
– Comfortable operating within an international environment with a diversity of cultures.
– Possess analytical problem solving and project management skills.
– A strong “client first” mentality.

The role requires some occasional travel within Europe.
