Winner of EuroCloud’s Best Cloud Application in 2014 and multiple winner of the Software Satisfaction Awards for the best small business CRM systems, Really Simple Systems is now the largest European vendor of cloud based CRM systems, with over 6,000 customers globally ranging from 1 to 600 user systems. Clients include the Red Cross, the Royal Academy of Arts and IBM as well as a wide range of small and medium sized companies.
Despite its market presence, Really Simple Systems is still relatively small, with a mixture of full and part time staff and a number of specialist suppliers and associates. The head office is in the UK and a Support operation has already been established in Budapest. The plan now is to base part of the software development activity in Hungary, initially through hiring an experienced developer capable of building a team.
The Role
Reporting to the Development Manager in the UK, the initial focus will be on migrating the current product, written in Classic ASP/VB Script/MySQL running under Windows Server, IIS and Linux to a full LAMP environment. This is a very hands on role involving coding, systems design and specification but a key responsibility is also to recruit, manage and motivate a small team of developers based in Budapest.
Longer term, the development programme will involve adding new modules and features, improving the existing product and scaling both the system and the hosting infrastructure to handle the rapid user and data growth envisaged in this 24/7/365 environment. The hosting environment is fundamentally very robust, but as the job holder carries the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the system down time is kept to an absolute minimum, some out of hours support may be involved.
An initial induction programme will be held in the UK and there will be regular visits to Budapest from the Development Manager and the business founder. Although the working environment is relaxed and empowering, there is a strong sense of quality and a focus on delivering results in agreed timescales.
The Person
Candidates should be established Senior Developers capable of building and running a small team. Technical skills should include Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP as well as HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Other skills that would be very useful are Windows Server and IIS, graphics editing and involvement with CRM or other business applications in a SaaS or Cloud environment. Documentation skills and DNS/Failover exposure would also be valuable.
A high level of fluency in written and spoken English is essential and in personality terms, we are looking for candidates who are flexible and talented with a sense of humour and a “can do” approach. It is also important to be well organised and systematic in approach and to have a strong commitment to quality customer service. A 9 to 5 mentality will not work but we are prepared to be flexible in working hours as long as results are achieved and deadlines met.
