Job Description
Morgan Stanley is seeking a qualified individual for its VRG Business Resource Management (BRM) team. The Morgan Stanley Valuation Review Group provides an independent valuation opinion across the entire spectrum of financial instruments within the firm’s sales and trading inventory and proprietary investment portfolio, ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The team leverages its diverse quantitative skill set and intimate product expertise to act as a guardian and approver of valuation methodology. The group’s key clients are senior trading management as well as the CFO organization of the firm.
Centralized liability management is executed for the Firm by BRM in partnership with Corporate Treasury. BRM is responsible for secured financing. It is uniquely positioned at the core of transaction flows to ensure proper and consistent allocation and pricing of resources across market facing businesses.
The VRG BRM group covers the following businesses –
• Counterparty Portfolio Management (global)
• FI Client Financing and Secured Funding (North America)
• Securities Lending (North America)
• OTC Client Clearing (North America)
The team is responsible for independent valuations for products covered under the above businesses. A sample of products in these businesses include Counterparty Valuation Adjustment, Repos/ reverse repos, Credit Default Swaps, Inflation Swaps, CMBS related products and other structured trades.
The team is also involved in the continuous advancement and enhancements of the valuation control infrastructure with a view towards global and cross-product standardization.
The team works closely with other groups within the Financial Control Group, Business Unit, the Model Control group, and Risk Management.
The candidate will primarily focus on the FI Client Financing and Secured Funding desk whose mandate is to raise and manage secured financing for the Firm. The person will also be involved with the other businesses including CPM, which focuses on CVA trading and bilateral counterparty management.
Responsibilities Include:
• Analysis and production of valuation review assessment
• Articulate results of analysis to a diverse audience including Division CFO’s, Trading Desk managers,Trading Management, and Risk Management
• Opine on valuation issues, acting as product specialist / technical advisor to Controllers
• Developing valuation methodology enhancements
• Drive requirements for strategic technology framework
• Analyze and present significant complex transactions to senior review committee
Strong communication skills are essential as the position entails a very high level of interaction and collaboration with Trading desks, Trading management, Analytical Modeling, Risk Management, other VRG teams and Controllers.
• The candidate should possess knowledge on and/or have experience with credit, interest rate derivatives and/ or SPG products. Repo related knowledge/ experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, Excel and problem solving skills
• Basic finance knowledge/ experience. Understands high level P/L, B/S and related flow and process
• Have a control mindset and sense of ownership/ accountability
• A Masters Degree preferred
