Full-Time Payroll Manager

Job Description

Varian Medical Systems Budapest is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee the activities of the European (including India) payroll function.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Drive implementation of consistent payroll system across regions
  • Directly manage regional payroll for EMEA and their processes; to ensure tax compliance with local laws and to uphold data integrity within the company.
  • Meets all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholding and employer contributions, and best practice execution.
  • Develops policies and procedures for payroll process and timekeeping.
  • Ensures the generation of the company payroll, including labor distribution records, vacation and sick leave accrual, overtime and withholding status.
  • Manage and support Budapest payroll staff, ensuring all payrolls, including off cycle runs and manual payments, receive and file payroll correspondences.
  • Selects, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Act as the business unit liaison on payroll-related matters.
  • Responsible for technical questions related to the payroll function and implement related changes.
  • Maintain effective controls to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley for payroll processes.
  • Build proactive and collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders (such as HR and Finance shared services and operational leaders, tax, legal, total rewards (compensation and benefits), IT, internal and external resources to ensure global best practices and consistency within processes.
  • Ensure global compliance and consistency (as possible) for the worldwide payroll function
  • Performs advanced payroll functions (i.e. grossups, retroactive pay, stock options, deferred stock and deductions) and fully understand company benefit plans for proper deductions.
  • Work closely with payroll providers/Vendors

 

 

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 10 years of related experience, including management experience
  • Experience with international payroll.
  • Strong, professional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in English language (both verbal and written); multilingual skills a plus.
  • Ability, competence, and confidence to lead people.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in utilizing business tools such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product software desired.
  • Some travel required, primarily within EMEA and India and occasionally to the US and AsiaPac.
  • Experience with payroll system implementation a plus.

Expert level experience strongly preferred:

 

  • ADP payroll software including European ADP network payroll companies.
  • Validating and loading payroll interface files.
  • Broad payroll experience including familiarity with:

 

    • Acquisitions/mergers
    • Expats, shadow payrolls and deferred compensation
    • Strong experience working with unions, work councils and collective bargaining agreements.
