Department Overview:
Yahoo! Web Analytics team provides a highly customizable, enterprise-level website analytics system. The product is designed to help website businesses increase sales and visitor satisfaction, reduce marketing costs and gain new insight on online customers. By storing data in raw, non-aggregated form, Yahoo! Web Analytics is more than simply a reporting tool. It is a powerful, and highly flexible, data analysis tool. Both near real-time and historical data can be segmented instantly and visualized with advanced graphs to help marketers and site designers answer specific business questions and find new insights to improve their business.
Responsibilities:
– Design, develop and test distributed applications to effectively use the backend data platform.
– Build custom enhancements (like aggregations, custom functions etc.) to the data platform to meet the application needs.
– Implement highly optimized code that can work with hundreds of terabytes of data.
– Develop software that can effectively utilize the grid computing power.
– Follow and implement instructions and tasks assigned from time-to-time to employee by employee’s manager as appropriate given employee’s responsibilities and skills.
Requirements:
Minimum Job Qualifications:
– 5+ years of experience.
– Excellent knowledge of UNIX.
– Expert knowledge of OO design principals.
– Fluency in C/C++ language is a must.
– Expert knowledge of debugging tools.
– Relational database experience.
– Excellent knowledge of network protocols.
– Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
– Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills.
– Proven ability to think outside the box.
– Results and quality driven, and capable of multi-tasking.
– Structured thinker, effective communicator.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
– Experience in Visual C++.
– Good knowledge of the unit testing concept.
– Experience in version control systems.
– Database engine development.
– Scripting languages knowledge, such as bash, perl, python.
– Experience in Web Analytics.
– Strong knowledge of Apache, XML and other Web technologies.
– Experience in designing and building large scale, highly available, distributed systems.
– M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
– Experience in Scrum/Agile.
– Experience in Extreme programming.
