Job Description

We (the Software Engineering team) are looking for a motivated, experienced person to lead and build a documentation team in Budapest, Hungary. This team’s charter is to write product documentation and create “How To” videos for each release. This team will be led out of Cloudera Hungary and work closely with the documentation team in the USA. A successful candidate will be innovative, flexible, and self-motivated. The ability to work under some ambiguity in a fast-paced environment is essential.

A Day in the Life

Your responsibilities involve hiring and supervising our first team of technical writers at Cloudera Hungary, as well as learning Cloudera software and editing and writing documentation.

Initially, a good deal of your time will be spent learning Cloudera software, documentation tools and processes and writing documentation for our software releases. As you build the team, you’ll train new writers, manage schedules, and review your team’s writing to ensure it meets Cloudera’s standards. As you build the team, you’ll provide guidance to help writers develop documentation for very complex software.

You’ll work with the documentation team in the USA, play an important role in the continuous improvement of documentation processes, and contribute ideas that will help improve the overall quality of our product documentation.

    You have…

  • A university degree (Telecommunications, Engineering and/or English major preferred).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills. You must have 5 or more years of experience writing installation guides, user guides, system administrator guides, or run books for technical audiences, such as database administrators, system administrators, or data cluster operators.
  • Proven success managing a team of technical writers.
  • Proven success managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience using Linux (Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu, or SUSE).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, along with the ability to adapt to various methods of obtaining information from subject matter experts.
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing responsibilities, situations, tools, and requirements.
  • Ability to learn technical subject matter quickly.

    You might also have…

  • knowledge of Hadoop and its ecosystem.
  • experience with XML/DITA authoring.
  • knowledge of typical IT or data cluster job tasks, or better yet, experience doing them.
